Preliminarily, I'm planning to bring 2 laptops: my trusty Thinkpad T40 (bought almost 2 years ago on my parents' IBM stockholder discount) for everyday writing/surfing/etc., and my brand-spanking new Dell Inspiron 9300 (bought this month with a $750 off coupon found on Techbargains) for games and multimedia (videos, DVDs, etc.).
The new Dell has a 17" screen, an Nvidia GF6800, and a 1.7 GHz Centrino processor, so it pretty much outbenchmarks anything else I currently have. I ordered an extra gig of RAM for it (came with only 256MB), and now it zips. Only thing I might eventually need now is a bigger HD, it "only" has 40GB, but since it also has a DVD burner I figure I can keep it clean enough. |
